How we manage your investments

If your firm has joined Reeves, we’ll make sure your investments continue to be looked after with care. We’ll take the time to understand your circumstances, what you want your money to achieve and how much risk you’re comfortable taking. Your investments will be kept under review, and we’ll talk them through with you at least once a year so you understand how they’re doing and whether anything needs to change.

One approach, built around you

If your firm has joined Reeves, your investments will now be looked after through the Reeves approach. It gives every client the same consistent framework, backed by independent research, regular oversight and a clear process for how investment decisions are made.

Within that approach, your investments are still personal to you. We’ll consider your circumstances, what you want your money to achieve and how much risk you’re comfortable taking, then match your investment strategy accordingly.

How we shape your investment strategy

Your investment strategy starts with you. We look at how much risk is right for you and where you are in life, then keep your portfolio managed and reviewed as your circumstances change.

  1. Your attitude to risk

We look at how comfortable you are with investment risk, as well as how much of a fall your finances could realistically absorb. It’s formally assessed and revisited at each review, so your strategy can continue to reflect your circumstances.

  2. Where you are in life

What you need from your investments can change as retirement gets closer. Building your retirement savings, preparing to retire and taking an income each call for different considerations, so your strategy reflects the stage you’re at.

  3. Your investments are kept under review

Your portfolio is monitored and rebalanced within the Reeves investment approach, supported by independent external research and specialist investment management expertise.

  4. We review it with you

At least once a year, we’ll review your strategy with you to make sure it still fits your circumstances, goals and attitude to risk. If something has changed, we can consider whether your investment strategy needs to change with it.

Different needs, different ways to invest

Most clients are invested through our core portfolio approach, but not everyone needs exactly the same thing. Where your circumstances, stage of life or preferences call for something different, we can adapt your strategy around you.

A portfolio matched to you

Your money is spread across different types of investments, sectors and parts of the world, with the investments actively selected and regularly reviewed. We’ll match you to a portfolio that reflects the level of risk you’re comfortable with and able to take. This is how most Reeves clients invest.

Preparing to take an income

What you need from your investments can change as retirement gets closer. If you’re approaching the point where you’ll start taking an income, we can consider keeping part of your money in a lower-volatility approach. This can reduce the need to sell investments after markets have fallen to fund nearer-term spending.

Investing with your values in mind

If environmental or social issues matter to you, we can explore investment options that take those preferences into account. Different approaches have different criteria, so we’ll explain what they invest in, what they may avoid and any trade-offs involved before making a recommendation.

When the usual approach isn’t right for you

Sometimes your circumstances call for something different. If one of our standard portfolios isn’t suitable, we can consider a more tailored arrangement and explain why we believe a different approach is right for you.

The team behind your investments

Your investments aren’t dependent on one person’s judgement. Our Investment Committee meets at least four times a year to review how portfolios are performing, the level of risk being taken and the costs involved.

Those decisions are supported by research from independent external analysts, giving the committee an objective view of the investments being considered. Where the evidence supports a change, we’ll make it and explain what it means for your portfolio.

What we do to look after your investments

Investment management is about more than choosing where you invest. At Reeves, we look at how your portfolio is built, where your money is held and how we keep everything on track.

  1. Building your portfolio

We spread your money across different investments, sectors and regions all with the strategy of aligning to the level of risk you’re comfortable taking.

  2. Choosing where your money is held

Pensions, ISAs and investment accounts work differently, but they can work together to give a strong plan. We work with you to ensure all of your assets work for your plan.

  3. Keeping your plan on track

Markets are rarely stagnant so investments can drift from their original course if not managed. We monitor and rebalance them when needed.

  4. Keeping you up to speed

We’ll send you updates and we’ll talk you through your investments and overall plan as part of your ongoing service with us.

Your investment questions, answered

My investments are now looked after by Reeves. Do I need to do anything?

Usually, no. We’ll take you through anything you need to know as your investments move under the Reeves approach. If we need you to make a decision or agree to a change, we’ll contact you, explain what it means and give you the opportunity to ask questions before anything happens.

What happens to the investments I already have?

We’ll look at what you currently hold, including how it’s invested, what it costs and whether it still suits your circumstances and plans. We won’t assume everything needs to change. If we recommend doing something differently, we’ll explain why and what it means for you before you decide whether to proceed.

Who decides how my money is invested?

Your strategy starts with you. We consider your circumstances, goals, attitude to risk and how much loss you could afford to absorb. Your portfolio is then managed within the Reeves investment approach, with our Investment Committee overseeing the wider investment proposition.

How often are my investments reviewed?

We’ll review your investment strategy with you at least once a year to check it still reflects your circumstances, goals and attitude to risk. Behind the scenes, portfolios are monitored on an ongoing basis, with our Investment Committee meeting at least four times a year to review the wider proposition.

What if something changes before my next review?

You don’t need to wait. If your income, family circumstances, retirement plans or anything else important changes, get in touch. We can look at whether your existing strategy still fits and whether anything needs to change.

Can my investments fall in value?

Yes. Investing involves risk, and the value of your investments can fall as well as rise. You may get back less than you invest. Our role is to make sure the level of investment risk you’re taking is appropriate for your circumstances, goals and the amount of risk you’re comfortable with and able to take.
